PIPS Programmes working together with Parenting NI

We have teamed up with Parenting NI to offer a very worthwhile course called Parenting Apart. This FREE 3 week programme is aimed at parents who have separated, are separating, divorced or thinking of divorce. The programme will provide practical advice and guidance on what children need to know, and what parents can do to meet their children’s needs.

This training is being held at our own Training room in North City Business Centre. Training starts this Wednesday and places are limited.

Dates: Wednesday 26th September, Wednesday 3rd October & Wednesday 10th October

Time: 6pm-9pm

Training with Ashton Centre and Glendowan FC

Many thanks to everyone who took part in our training last week. Last Wednesday and Thursday we welcomed staff and volunteers from the Ashton Centre to attend “Preventing Suicide in Your Community” training at PIPS and on Sunday we went to Cloona House to deliver the “Preventing Suicides in Young People” programme to coaches from Glendowan FC.

Thanks to all who came, we hope you enjoyed it!

Events on World Suicide Prevention Day September 2012

PIPS Families are holding several events to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on 10th September 2012:

- “Out of the Darkness into the Light” walk to City Hall from 4.45am – 6pm
- Inter denominational remembrance Service at Holy Cross Chapel, 7pm
- Light Up the Sky Lantern & Balloon release at 10pm

Bounce Arts Festival Events this August

If you’re looking for something cultural to get involved with this month, Bounce! is an action packed eight day festival presenting new work by disabled artists, featuring a range of top local and international work from visual artists, animators, writers, musicians, performance artists and theatre and dance companies.

“The name of the festival refers to disabled people’s resilience and ability to bounce back but it is also about pleasure, bouncing with joy, and celebrating the talent of disabled artists!” explained ADF Chief Executive Chris Ledger.

The festival takes place in the Cathedral Quarter from August 24th to 31st, coinciding with the arrival of the Paralympic torch in Northern Ireland. It has been funded by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, with co-funding from Belfast City Council.

First Training Programme at PIPS new Training Facility!

This week saw PIPS Programmes deliver the first of many programmes in the training room at our new Antrim Road offices. We welcomed visitors from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and several members of the public from the Belfast area to the “Preventing Suicides in your Community Programme”.

Training at Teletech

A big thank you to everyone who took part in our “Preventing Suicides in your Community” training at Teletech in north Belfast this week!

Well done guys!

Teletech have kindly donated funds to PIPS and have been very proactive in promoting suicide awareness among their staff by inviting us in to deliver training. Any workplace can be affected by suicide and we are keen to work with other local employers to train more people in suicide prevention skills. Fashion Event @ House of Fraser 14th August

House of Fraser have kindly donated their services to PIPS and we are jointly holding a fashion and beauty event at the Ivory Restaurant, offering exclusive beauty and styling on the Tuesday 14th August from 6.30pm onwards.

Tickets are £20.00 and include a glass of prosecco on arrival, nibbles and a great goodie bag donated by House of Fraser.

We have moved!

PIPS have moved to new, larger offices at 279 Antrim Road! It’s business as usual though with our Care Team service and training being delivered as usual.

This week we delivered training to:

- Members of the community at Holy Cross Girls School;

- Staff at the Irish News;

- Members of the community in Atticall near Kilkeel

- Hair and Beauty students at the Academy Training School in Belfast.
